The Old West Church opened its doors in 1823 to the community for secular and non-secular events. Today, the tradition continues with concerts, weddings, funerals, and the popular Christmas Eve candlelight service.


The Old West Church 2021 Annual Fund Drive has begun!  Please contribute what you can to maintain this precious resource!  The Annual Fund letter can be accessed HERE.

Words Out Loud: 3 PM Sept. 19th, 26th, Oct. 3rd

Connected thematically to the month long exhibit of Art at the Kent at the Kent Museum, come enjoy this special afternoon of reading at the Old West Church.  For more information:

October 3 – Fall Foliage Concert: 1 PM

Enjoy the Old West Church during the height of fall foliage and be entertained by the Calais Community Choir and surprise performances by local musicians.

October 17 – OWCA Annual Meeting: 3 PM

Participate in the Annual Meeting including the election of Trustees, a review of Church activities, program and project planning, and President and Committee reports. Attendance is encouraged and welcomed! This meeting is held at the church.


The Board of the Old West Church Association is pleased to announce the installation of  Anne Conner to fill the unexpired term of Caity Kaye.  She will take the position of Corresponding Secretary.

UPDATED Announcement Related to COVID-19


Dear Friends of The Old West Church:

As per state guidelines the Old West Church has now reopened to the public with the following local guidelines for large group gatherings:

  • Capacity—total capacity is limited to 150 people.
  • Total capacity on the first floor is limited to: 100 attendees
  • Total capacity on the second floor is limited to: 50 attendees

Events with Reservations:

The Old West Church Association is adhering to Vermont state guidance with these additional stipulations:

In signing our reservation agreement, you are agreeing to adhere to Vermont COVID-19 guidelines that are in force as of the date(s) of your event, as well as any additional stipulations made by the OWC Association Trustees. Trustee stipulations are subject to change depending on updated guidance from the state of Vermont and our own assessment of the church environment. You will be immediately informed of these changes, should they need to occur. If they result in cancellation of your event, all fees will be refunded.

As the Old West Church is an unsupervised venue (meaning there are no paid staff on site during events), it is our hope and expectation that all users will act responsibly for the sake of their own health and for the health and wellbeing of the larger community.

Event Space Usage

The Old West Church is the perfect event space for a variety of gatherings. We’ve been especially honored to host wedding ceremonies in the past. The church is a wonderful mix of local history and rustic charm, and we’d love to provide the perfect backdrop for your special day.
